As part of the review of UAP historical materials under PURSUE, the Dow has opened a case to investigate the NASA photograph accompanying the Apollo 17 mission, taken in December 1972. The image contains three "dots" in a triangular formation in the lower right quadrant of the lunar sky that are clearly visible when the image is zoomed in. Although this photo has been previously published and discussed by keen observers, there is no consensus on the nature of the anomaly. A new preliminary analysis by the U.S. government suggests that the feature in the image could be the result of a physical object in the scene. Furthermore, as part of this investigation, the government has obtained the original Apollo 17 film, and the results of the full analysis by NASA and the Dow will be released upon completion.
