Su Majestad el Rey Don Felipe se desplazó a Lisboa para asistir a la solemne ceremonia de toma de posesión de Su Excelencia António José Seguro como presidente de la República Portuguesa, celebrada en la Asamblea de la República, en el histórico Palacio de São Bento.
Llegada a Lisboa
A primera hora de la mañana, Don Felipe aterrizó en el Aeropuerto Militar de Figo Maduro, donde fue recibido con los honores correspondientes por el embajador de España en Portugal, Juan Fernández Trigo; el embajador de Portugal en España, José Augusto Duarte; el jefe de Gabinete del ministro de Asuntos Exteriores portugués, João Silveira; el oficial de enlace de la República Portuguesa, José María Morais; y el comandante de la Base Militar de Figo Maduro, Vitor Severiano. Tras la recepción oficial, Su Majestad se trasladó a la sede parlamentaria.
Recepción en el Palacio de São Bento
A su llegada al Palacio de São Bento, el Rey fue recibido por el jefe de Protocolo de Estado de la República Portuguesa, Francisco Vaz. En el Salón Noble mantuvo un breve encuentro con diversas autoridades y jefes de Estado invitados, entre ellos los presidentes de Angola, João Gonçalves Lourenço; de Santo Tomé y Príncipe, Carlos Vila Nova; de Cabo Verde, José María Neves; de Timor Oriental, José Ramos-Horta; y de Mozambique, Daniel Chapo. También estuvieron presentes la comisaria europea María Luisa Albuquerque, el presidente de la Asamblea de la República, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco; el presidente del Supremo Tribunal de Justicia, João Cura; el presidente del Tribunal Constitucional, José João Abrantes; el expresidente Aníbal Cavaco Silva, así como representantes de los grupos parlamentarios y del Consejo de Administración de la Asamblea.
Sesión solemne de toma de posesión
Su Majestad ocupó su lugar en el palco de honor para presenciar el inicio de la sesión solemne. Durante la ceremonia se procedió a la lectura del acta electoral, al juramento del presidente electo y a la firma del acta de toma de posesión por parte del presidente de la Asamblea y del nuevo jefe del Estado. El acto incluyó la interpretación del himno nacional de Portugal y una salva de veintiún cañonazos. Intervinieron el presidente de la Asamblea de la República y el presidente António José Seguro, quien asumió oficialmente la Jefatura del Estado.
Finalizada la ceremonia, Don Felipe saludó al nuevo presidente y al presidente de la Asamblea en el Salón Noble, en un gesto que simbolizó la amistad y cooperación entre ambos países.
Actos en el Palacio de Belém
Posteriormente, Su Majestad se trasladó al Palacio de Belém para participar en los actos organizados con motivo del inicio del mandato presidencial. Allí fue recibido por el subdirector de Protocolo de Estado, José Carlos Arsénio, y coincidió con otros jefes de Estado y autoridades internacionales. En la Sala das Bicas tuvo lugar el acto de entrega de la Banda de Gran Maestre de las Tres Órdenes Militares Portuguesas al nuevo presidente.
La jornada concluyó con un almuerzo ofrecido por António José Seguro en honor de los jefes de Estado y autoridades presentes, celebrado en el Palacio de Belém.

António José Seguro sucede en la Jefatura del Estado portuguesa a Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, quien el pasado 20 de febrero fue recibido en el Palacio Real de Madrid por Sus Majestades los Reyes en una visita de despedida previa a la conclusión de su mandato.
La asistencia de Su Majestad el Rey a esta ceremonia se enmarca en su participación habitual en tomas de posesión de jefes de Estado, especialmente en el ámbito iberoamericano, reflejando los estrechos vínculos históricos, políticos y culturales que España mantiene con Portugal y con los países de la comunidad iberoamericana.

His Majesty King Felipe traveled to Lisbon to attend the solemn inauguration ceremony of His Excellency António José Seguro as President of the Portuguese Republic, held at the Assembly of the Republic, in the historic Palace of São Bento.
Arrival in Lisbon
Early in the morning, King Felipe landed at Figo Maduro Military Airport, where he was received with the corresponding honors by the Ambassador of Spain to Portugal, Juan Fernández Trigo; the Ambassador of Portugal to Spain, José Augusto Duarte; the Chief of Staff of the Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs, João Silveira; the liaison officer of the Portuguese Republic, José María Morais; and the Commander of the Military Base of Figo Maduro, Vitor Severiano. After the official reception, His Majesty proceeded to the parliamentary headquarters.
Reception at the Palace of São Bento
Upon arrival at the Palace of São Bento, the King was welcomed by the Chief of State Protocol of the Portuguese Republic, Francisco Vaz. In the Noble Hall, he held a brief meeting with various authorities and Heads of State invited to the ceremony, including the Presidents of Angola, João Gonçalves Lourenço; São Tomé and Príncipe, Carlos Vila Nova; Cape Verde, José María Neves; East Timor, José Ramos-Horta; and Mozambique, Daniel Chapo. Also present were European Commissioner Maria Luisa Albuquerque, the President of the Assembly of the Republic, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco; the President of the Supreme Court of Justice, João Cura; the President of the Constitutional Court, José João Abrantes; former President Aníbal Cavaco Silva, as well as representatives of parliamentary groups and the Board of Administration of the Assembly.
Solemn inauguration session
His Majesty took his place in the honor box to witness the beginning of the solemn session. During the ceremony, the electoral act was read, the oath of the elected President was taken, and the inauguration act was signed by the President of the Assembly and the new Head of State. The ceremony included the performance of the Portuguese national anthem and a twenty-one-gun salute. Speeches were delivered by the President of the Assembly of the Republic and the new President António José Seguro, who officially assumed the Head of State.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, King Felipe greeted President António José Seguro and the President of the Assembly in the Noble Hall, symbolizing the friendship and cooperation between both nations.
Events at the Palace of Belém
Later, His Majesty moved to the Palace of Belém to participate in the events organized on the occasion of the beginning of the presidential mandate. There he was received by the Deputy Director of State Protocol, José Carlos Arsénio, and met with other Heads of State and international authorities. In the Sala das Bicas, the ceremony of handing over the Grand Master’s Sash of the Three Portuguese Military Orders to the new President took place.
The day concluded with a luncheon offered by António José Seguro in honor of the Heads of State and authorities present, held at the Palace of Belém.
Institutional context
António José Seguro succeeds Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa as Head of State of Portugal. On February 20, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was received at the Royal Palace in Madrid by Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain in a farewell visit prior to the conclusion of his mandate.
The attendance of His Majesty King Felipe at this ceremony is part of his customary participation in presidential inaugurations, particularly within the Ibero-American sphere, reflecting the close historical, political, and cultural ties that Spain maintains with Portugal and with the countries of the Ibero-American community.
